Watchword :: 2019: Wonder To Many

Pastors' Desk

Scripture reference: 1Cor. 1:27-28

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

We are instructed and commanded in the word of God not to despise anyone. Matt 18:10 "Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. We should not even despise our own self. Zec 4:10 The word despise means to look down on with disdain. It also means to rubbish, to ridicule maltreat and make mockery of.

This behavior or attitude is a grievous sin in the sight of God. God hates it passionately. It provokes the wrath of God upon people with damnable consequences most times without remedy. Some of the things people suffer for and from today is as a result of despising someone for whatever reason. Remember Michal the daughter of Saul, wife of David suffered barrenness for despising David who was dancing before God. 1Sam 6:16 "And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.

20-23 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself! And David said unto Michal, It was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord. And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour. Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.

Think of this 1. God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise. To confound means to dishonor, to disgrace, to put to shame or make ashamed. Wow! This is serious. 2. God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the mighty. The word weak means infirm or feeble. 3. God has chosen base things of the world. The word base here means ignoble, coward, nonentity, of no relevance, of no family, that is low born, of no repute e.t.c 4. God has chosen things that are despised to bring to nought things that are. That is to say, "The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? Matt 21:42

We often despise people because of their state, status, challenges e.t.c. Let me mention just a few here. *We despise people because of their poor and low estate. *We despise people because they are "barren" and have no child yet. *We despise people when they seem not to be "doing well" *We despise overaged people who are yet to get married. *We despise and make a mockery of people who can't speak "fluent English" *We despise people using their troubles to disdain and call them names like the lady with K leg, short man devil, the man with a punctured eye, the man with big ear, that illiterate uneducated man e.t.c. God hates this attitude. It is a sin in the sight of God when we despise people because of their problems. I know some people who made a mockery of a woman who had no child many years ago. They disdained, made a mockery of her and called her all kind of names. Today, they are in the same trouble of what they mocked. I pray that God have mercy on them and all of us who despise people.

Never despise or make mockery of anyone for whatever reason. Remember, we will reap whatever we sow. You never can tell what happens the next minute. At a stage, Joseph was a house boy. At another stage, Joseph was a prime minister. All those who once despised him prostrated to him at last. Encourage and lift others up. Many years back, I bought a bus for my ministry because I was doing a lot of outreaches and crusades. On the bus, I inscribed GOSPEL FOR EVERY NATION MINISTRIES (INCORPORATED). Some Pastors, friends and neighbor at that time despised and laughed me to scorn. It was painful and provoking. They despised me because of the word "NATIONS" Today, it is history. Do not despise anyone. Life is transient. You can never tell. The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner.

Prayer: 1. Lord, please forgive me in anyway I am found wanting on this matter. 2. Help me not to despise anyone for whatever reason. 3. Father, reverse whatever consequences I may be suffering for despising you, your word and your handiwork. Matt 18:10
